Privacy Policy
Effective: July 1, 2026 · Updated: October 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information OmmaBee collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the OmmaBee mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy and to our Terms & Conditions.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address (required). A phone number is optional and collected only if you choose to add it to your profile. If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from Google (such as your name and email) as permitted by your Google account settings.
1.2 Content You Post
We collect the content you create — listings, descriptions, photos, prices, tags, and any contact or business details you choose to include — along with the language you write in. Photos are checked by automated tools for content that breaks our rules, and we remove location and camera details (such as GPS coordinates and device information) embedded in a photo before it is published. Listings and their photos are visible to anyone who has the link, including people without an OmmaBee account.
1.3 Approximate Location
With your permission, we collect your device location. When you create a post, we use the precise location your device reports to confirm the post is within the area we serve and to work out its neighborhood, city, and ZIP code (this uses Google's geocoding service). Draft posts, including that precise location, are kept for up to 7 days or until you publish. When you publish, we store and show only an approximate location (about one mile); we do not publish your precise or exact address for personal posts.
1.4 Messages
Messages you send through OmmaBee's in-app messaging, including messages to OmmaBee support, are stored for up to 180 days and then deleted automatically. Before a message is delivered, an automated service from a third-party AI provider reviews its text, subject line, and the sender's display name for safety. Support staff can read messages sent to support.
1.5 Usage and Device Information
We automatically collect basic technical information such as device type, app version, language settings, general activity in the app, and diagnostic or crash data, to operate and improve the Service. We also keep the text of your searches, with tags and result counts, and the actions you take on listings, for 90 days to provide search history and personalized suggestions. Usage analytics carry an anonymized identifier, a one-way code derived from your account, and are kept for up to 12 months; because the code is derived from your account, we treat it as personal information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Create and manage your account and authenticate you
• Publish your posts and help neighbors discover them
• Provide search, discovery, translation, and messaging features
• Show nearby content based on approximate location
• Maintain safety, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms
• Diagnose problems, improve features, and develop the Service
• Communicate with you about the Service
3. Automated Processing and AI Features
OmmaBee uses automated and AI-based features — including translation, voice-to-text transcription, summarization, categorization, and cross-language search — to help neighbors discover and read posts across languages. To provide these features, the content you submit (such as listing text, photos, voice input, search text, and messages sent for safety review) may be processed by trusted AI and search-technology service providers on our behalf, including Google, Amazon Web Services, and providers of search embeddings and result ranking. These providers receive only what is needed for the task. This processing is used to generate translated or structured versions of your content and to power search. Your original content remains the authoritative version of your post, and automated versions are identified as automated where displayed.
4. What We Do Not Do
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not display or share your phone number with other users as part of standard messaging.
• We do not send SMS text messages on your behalf; user-to-user contact happens through in-app messaging.
• We do not publish your precise or exact location for personal posts.
5. How Information Is Shared
We share information only as described here:
5.1 With Other Users
Your posts — and any contact details you choose to include — are visible to other users. If you post as a business or organization, any contact information you publish (such as a phone number, website, or address) is shown to users because you chose to publish it.
5.2 With Service Providers
We use trusted third-party providers to run the Service, who process information on our behalf under appropriate obligations. These include cloud hosting and infrastructure (Amazon Web Services), AI, translation, and search processing (Google, Amazon, and search embedding and ranking providers), mapping and geocoding (Google Maps Platform), business listings from open data (Overture Maps Foundation), sign-in (Google and Apple), device integrity checks (Apple App Attest and Google Play Integrity), and email delivery (Amazon SES). Their use of information is limited to providing services to us.
5.3 For Legal and Safety Reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or OmmaBee.
5.4 In a Business Transfer
If OmmaBee is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
6. Location Information
Location access is optional and controlled by your device permissions. We use location to show nearby posts and to attach an approximate (about one-mile) location to your posts. You can turn off location permission at any time in your device settings; some discovery features may be limited if you do.
7. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Posts and photos are kept for the period you choose. Drafts are kept for up to 7 days. Messages are kept for 180 days. Search history and activity used for personalization are kept for 90 days. Usage analytics are kept for up to 12 months. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, posts and photos, drafts, saved items, search history, personalization data, and sign-in within about an hour, and remove your posts from search. What remains: (a) messages you sent to other people stay in their inbox for up to 180 days with your name replaced by "Deleted user"; (b) messages and safety reports sent to OmmaBee support, and messages our safety check declined to deliver, are kept for up to 180 days to handle abuse and meet legal duties; (c) encrypted backups expire within 35 days and are not restored into the live service; (d) anonymized usage analytics expire within 12 months. A public listing page may remain visible for up to 24 hours after deletion because of caching. Where the law requires us to keep information, we keep it for as long as required.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted storage of credentials and secrets and restricted access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to address risks responsibly.
9. Your Choices and Rights
• Access and update: You can view and update your profile information in the app.
• Delete: You can delete your posts or your account at any time, in the app (menu, Delete account) or without the app: see how to delete your account.
• Location and notifications: You can control these through your device settings.
• California residents: Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to know what personal information we collect, to request access or deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact us at contact@ommabee.com.
10. Children's Privacy
OmmaBee is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected information from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted in the app or on our website with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
